Back on the chain gang
Jan 25, 2011
It’s that time again in Colorado where the chain law season has officially begun. According to the Colorado DOT, “All commercial vehicles traveling on I-70 between milepost 133 (Edwards exit) and milepost 259 (Morrison exit) must carry sufficient chains to be in compliance with the Colorado chain law. The law requires commercial vehicles to carry chains on this segment of I-70 from September 1st to May 31st each year. Evotherm has been used as part of a test section that begins at the west portal of Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial tunnel on I-70.and continues down to Town of Silverthorne. This cold and snowy section of I-70 has average annual daily traffic of 30,000 that is 10% trucks and 4.85M ESALS (10-yr). In the winter of 2007/8 it snowed 65 of 76 days between 12/1/2007 and 2/14/2008 and there were a total of 128 chain days. Two years have gone by now and the Evotherm section continues to perform well, getting favorable reviews at the last field review for which a report is pending.
