Faces of Evotherm: Jason Mapes

May 22, 2017

What do you get when you combine a native Chicagoan, an avid outdoorsman, a husband and father of three, a practitioner of Krav Maga, an Evotherm® ninja, and an all around great guy? Easy: Jason Mapes.

“I love helping my team grow and be successful in their positions,” shares Jason, technical services manager for Evotherm technologies. He manages the technical team and supports the sales organization by providing product and project support across the globe.

He has some of the most picturesque project photos you’ll ever see. Our team thinks he’s one cool dude, and we think you will too.

What’s your idea of happiness?

Sitting on my back porch with my wife and dogs having a drink (while my kids are outside playing and not fighting). All after a day of fishing.

What would make you miserable?

Being cooped up inside for days at a time.

If not in South Carolina, where would you like to live?

Alaska in the summer and Costa Rica in the winter.

Who are your heroes in real life?

I would have to say my dad and my grandfather. I learned a lot from watching them.

With what natural talent would you like to be gifted?

I would like to be able to understand and play music.

Tell us about how you fell into the asphalt industry.

The day I turned 16 and got my license to drive, my dad told me to drive to Curran Contracting and apply for a job. I started working there in the lab after school, on weekends, and over school vacations. One summer break during college, I was offered a full-time job in the quality control department. I worked my way up from shaking rocks to quality control management. The rest is history.

What’s your favorite memory from a project?

My first trip to Alaska to cover a project was awesome. It was a very successful project that helped lead the way for Evotherm, and in a very beautiful place.

When Jason isn’t traveling the world ensuring our customers get the industry’s best technical support, he can be found fishing, hunting, making longbows and recurve bows, or practicing the Israeli military self-defense sytem called Krav Maga. Let us warn you: He may look nice and harmless, but he could probably snap you in two!

Jason loves the words of Johnny Cash: “If you aren’t gonna say exactly how and what you feel, you might as well not say anything at all.” So let us say exactly this: We’re proud to have Jason representing Ingevity and Evotherm worldwide; And if you don’t already know him, we hope you get the opportunity.
