DERIDDER, La., Aug. 15, 2016 – Ingevity employees hosted their fourth annual back-to-school Backpack Attack on Aug. 5 for residents of DeRidder and the surrounding communities. Held at the pavilion on the Ingevity campus, approximately 300 children were given backpacks filled with loose leaf paper, composite notebooks, folders, pencils, pens, glue sticks, erasers, rulers, notecards and scissors.

Volunteers from a local ministry, I Am Second, and the local food bank, God’s Food Box, joined forces with Ingevity, passing out backpacks along with personal items such as socks, toothpaste and a toothbrush to each child in attendance.

“We love being able to give back to our community,” stated Arlene Brooks, environmental engineer for Ingevity. “Towards the end of the event, I was approached by a woman in need of six backpacks. When I informed her that we were down to our last five, she stated ‘That’s okay, every little bit helps. Thank you!’ Just hearing those words and seeing the gratification on her face makes all of the hard work and planning for an event like this worthwhile.”

Ingevity recognizes the importance of equipping children with the supplies needed for a successful school year. As such, the Backpack Attack will continue to be scheduled in August of each year to help rising students from kindergarten through 12th grade to excel in their path of study.
