North Charleston chemical maker strikes Texas solar deal with utility giant

North Charleston-based chemical maker Ingevity Corp. has struck a deal to offset the electricity it uses at its U.S. manufacturing sites by buying solar power from one of the nation’s largest utilities.

The purchase agreement with NextEra Energy Resources LLC was announced Aug. 15. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Ingevity CEO John Fortson said the deal is part of the global chemical company’s plan to reduce its greenhouse-gas emissions and become carbon neutral by 2050.
