Race Track Challenge
Nov 05, 2015
Asphalt Pavement magazine highlights the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park in their November/December edition. Scotty's Contracting & Stone LLC paved the track and won a NAPA Quality in Construction Award for the excellent work performed. The article details some of the unique aspects of race track mixes. They are designed to handle the raveling caused by downdrafts created from high speed vehicles. The track used an almost unheard of PG82-22 binder that was highly modified with Kraton Polymer SBS. To achieve the workability necessary for getting compaction and for antistripping properties, Scotty's added Evotherm to the mix. Smooth and tight joints were critical to the overall ride at high speeds.
You can view construction photos at NCM Motorsports Park's Facebook page, but what you'll really want to do is take a lap around the track!
