Dirty Jobs goes paving
Feb 01, 2011
Apparently Mike Rowe has tried his hand at asphalt paving on Dirty Jobs. Who knew? Carrie at LL Pelling knew! Mike paves Highway 2 east of Alliance and west of Antioch in Nebraska. Werner Construction Co. takes him from driving a 40-year old CAT to scrape up old road then the broom tracker then spraying tack oil then back to the broom tracker to the belly dump, paving and rolling. Did you know that the Babylonians were the first to build roads with asphalt in 625 BC? Now you do and you didn’t even have to eat a grasshopper to learn that like the guy in the episode. Back to the jobsite, it could have gone a little better for Mike with the belly dump. It was very smokey and “sweltering” at 350 F and the crew had to hurry so that it didn’t get too cool. Hmmm….bet some Evotherm would have helped. Mike even goes behind the screed. I missed it! If you did, too, here are a few clips. You can get the full episode at Amazon.
