Working Day & Night
Nov 16, 2015
Lane Construction paved Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail terminal in Haslet, TX during the winter months of December 2014-January 2015. The BNSF project was on a fast paced timeline that required Lane Construction to work day and night, 7 days a week to complete the project. While you may not associate Texas with cold weather paving, overnight lows hovered around 40 degrees F during these months.
To handle the truck traffic, the rail terminal required a Superpave Type A Base placed in 2 lifts for a total of 8.5β and then capped with 1.5β of Superpave D mix. Both mixes used a stiff 76-22 binder grade. Lane Construction chose Evotherm to produce quality asphalt in such extreme conditions. Over a month of day and night paving with 2 crews Lane paved a little over 100,000 tons and 40 acres to complete the project.
