NAPA on the Mica Bill
Jul 13, 2011
Unless you were high up in the mountains or otherwise out of range last week, you know that the chariman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, John Mica (R-FL), introduced the House Surface Tranportation Reauthorization proposal. The kind folks at NAPA have released a legislative update on the proposal summary. It includes an overview of funding and program reform along with reactions from NAPA, AASHTO, ARTBA, AGC, and the American Highway Users Alliance.
Senate EPW Chairman Barbara Boxer (D-CA) will be unveiling the highway pportion of the Surface Trasportation bill this week. She has said that in order to maintain existing funding levels, the EPW Committee will introduce a two-year, $109 billion measure.
NAPA's Legislative Committee meets July 19th "to discuss these latest developments and plot a strategy moving forward that is in the best interests of the asphalt pavement industry". I won't try to summarize the summary – but urge you to give it a read. For more information or to convey your comments, NAPA asks that you contact Jay Hansen, Vice President of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs, at [email protected] or 301-731-4748.
