NC Highway 24 off to a good start
Jun 13, 2011
Today marked the beginning of Rose Brothers Paving’s 100,000 ton resurfacing job on North Carolina Highway 24 near Beulaville. The state road project is a 2 inch mill and fill using a 65 gyration RI 19 OB mix with 15% RAP, 64-22 binder, and Evotherm. Aggregate moisture was 2%. The plant is located in Bethel, NC and paving is almost 2 hours away.
The initial 4 loads were made hot (290F). This was good because the laydown was delayed by 3 hours. The mix still looked great and was 250F behind the screed. The mix production temperature was then dropped to 280F, targeting 250F behind the screed. Rose Brothers plant personnel, laydown foreman, and NCDOT folks all seemed pleased with the job.
The project is expected to stretch into next year – yielding a company and crew that will be experts on Evotherm WMA!.
