Giants Despair Hillclimb 2011
Jul 13, 2011
The FavoriteRoad.com team headed out to Wilkes-Barre, PA last weekend for the annual Giants Despair Hillclimb. Brian Clark of the Asphalt Institute, "Layne Rider" from FavoriterRoad.com, Nustar Energy's Ron Corun, and MWV's Mike O'Leary were on-hand for the festivities. The FavoriteRoad.com tent attracted road enthusiasts throughout the day. Here are a few of the highlights:
- NuStar, Evotherm and FavoriteRoad.com logos were featured on no less than 20 different cars at the event.
- Darryl Danko, the hill’s current record holder, carried the logos prominently on his classic Bobby Rahal Lola (blue/yellow Indy car) and Gurney Eagle (red Indy car) … both of which were the fastest cars there.
- Jack Danko, Sr featured the logos on his orange Ford Continental Indy car
According to the Citizen Voice, "the pavement made a difference in times as 14 drivers in different classes set speed records. Next year the pavement will get its best test yet, as Danko promises to bring back his 1989 Lola Indy car. That was the car that Danko set a course record with in 2007, posting a time of 38.960 seconds."

Here's a video from Jack Danko's car as he goes up the hill (and shows off the newly-paved course).
