Faces of Evotherm: Brian Gehring

Mar 02, 2018

Our Evotherm® sales manager in the midcontinent region is more than just an experienced leader and sales professional. Brian Gehring is a Minnesota-born husband and father of two who believes strongly that people give his life meaning, and cares as much about his team and customers as he does about his family at home.

“I have a great technical marketing team that I enjoy working with so much,” says Brian. “I have the privilege of helping them identify market opportunities and collaborate with customers to find solutions for the challenges they face.”

“My team and our customers are the best,” continues Brian. “We are friends above and beyond simply being coworkers or having a solely business relationship.”

What’s your idea of happiness?

Spending time with my family at the lake. We try to spend a week every year at a lake house in Michigan, boating, fishing, golfing and making a campfire every night.

What’s your idea of misery?

Gardening. I had to pull weeds in my parents’ garden as a kid and it’s just not my thing. The local farmers market is a much better option!

If not yourself, who would you be?

Jimmy Buffett. He just seems like a person who is always in a good mood, without a worry in the world.

Where would you like to live?

Right now we live in Wichita but had the opportunity to spend 11 years in Colorado when I first got into the business. There is so much to do in the mountains any time of the year and the weather and scenery are hard to beat. I hope to end up there again someday.

Who are your heroes in real life?

Probably my parents who just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They set an incredible example for my wife and I, as well as our two children, Cade who is 14 and Sidney who is 12.

With what natural talent would you like to be gifted?

A good golf swing. I don’t need to be a pro but something less than a 10 handicap would be great.

What’s something that would surprise people to know about you?

To this day, I can ice skate and roller blade like a boss! I grew up playing hockey in Minnesota as a kid and it just stuck.

What’s your favorite memory from a project?

Many years ago, I was on a project on Highway 160 near Chimney Rock, Colorado, and had a couple of bear cubs walk out onto the roadway. Everyone scrambled to their vehicles, as we didn’t know where Mama Bear was.

When Brian isn’t working with the coolest team and customers around, he can be found mountain biking, snowboarding, golfing and hunting. “I think I hunt now more for my bird dog than I do for myself,” he explains. “I also started deer hunting with my son last year which gives us quality time together.”

He is moved by a quote that reads: “Character over emotion, sacrifice over comfort, tenacity to sustain.” Although he’s unsure of where it came from, Brian says that “it’s something I read many, many years ago, wrote on a sticky note and have kept in my planner ever since.”
