Faces of Lubricants: Shana McCabe
Nov 30, 2018
Shana McCabe is a fearless leader who’s dedicated to successfully growing Ingevity’s Lubricants business and inspiring those around her. Not only does she lead our global Lubricants team, but she’s also a devoted mother, wife, friend (and let’s not forget globetrotter!). She’s not afraid to take risks to help set Ingevity’s products and customer experience apart. When it comes to business strategy, product management and global marketing, Shana is your go-to-girl. She has been with Ingevity for more almost six years and has over 20 years of business development experience. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in economics from the University of Illinois with a master’s degree in management from Washington University, St. Louis. Prior to joining Ingevity, Shana worked in the medical field and software industry, and has started six divisions within multiple organizations (business development, market development and sales).
Tell us about the experience you bring to your role and what you do at Ingevity. As the global business manager for Ingevity’s Lubricants business, I have the responsibility of making sure that the business grows, develops and expands globally. I have been in sales, business development and sales management for nearly 25 years. Although most of my experience has been in a different industry (cardiac medical devices), I’ve brought a new perspective to this role to make it energetic and exciting, and allow us to think about specialty additives in a different way than the norm.
We know you travel quite a bit. What are a few of your top few places you’ve been? I love Southeast Asia and South America. If I had to choose my favorite city, it would be Singapore, followed closely by Bangkok and Tokyo. The energy is contagious and the people are SO NICE!
What’s one of your favorite memories from a project? There are so many, it’s impossible to pick one! Since I’ve been a part of this team since its inception, the people and projects are all my favorite. My team has been instrumental in expanding the business and we’ve been able to grow at such a rapid pace due to their efforts.
What are you most proud of? My incredible team and how far we have come is such a short period. Everyone has worked extremely hard to grow our team and sales—resulting in a 280 percent growth within five years!
When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time? I am beyond lucky to have my parents in Charleston, amazing friends, adorable children and a truly spectacular husband. Spending time with them doing anything is special to me.
What’s the first concert you attended? Favorite musician? My first concert was in sixth grade and I saw Rick Springfield. I was so in love! I absolutely love most music and can’t choose a favorite—there are simply too many that I enjoy listening to!
What’s your dream vacation? As many places as I have been in the world, the one thing I am still dying to do is go on an African safari. That may have to be next on my list!
What natural talent would you like to have? Since I was a little girl I have always dreamed of being a singer. Although that dream never came to fruition, it still sits in the back of my mind.
