Are all lubricity products equal?

Nov 05, 2019

With such a variety of raw materials available for use in the production of lubricity products, robust testing protocols can be used to fully assess product and field performance. In today’s market, the primary chemistry solutions for lubricity improvers consist of monoacids or esters. When determining the best product to use, it’s important to recognize that variations in monoacid lubricity solutions exist. The balance between cost and sustainable lubricity performance is delicate, however, robust and reliable overall performance is critical to refinery operations.

In a recent study by Infenium, four areas were identified as being important to customers including: product performance, handleability, product quality and safety. After testing more than 100 lubricity samples, it became obvious that monoacids are not equal in overall performance. The natural resources in monoacids have an inherent seasonal variability so well-defined risk-based specifications are vital to ensure consistent quality and overall product success.
